In 2023, NZR in partnership with host Provincial Unions, is launching a series of rugby festival events throughout New Zealand for girls under 18 years of age. Each event is open to any team in the country to enter.
The aim of these festival events is to offer meaningful rugby minutes to participants against comparable levels of opposition from various parts of the country, while condensing the competition format over the weekend in an effort to minimise scheduling conflicts with existing local competitions.
In addition to the rugby, teams can expect a positive off-field experience provided by the hosting unions that may include game development sessions, tournament dinners, socialising opportunities with other teams, tailored to what each unique venue/region can offer.
Subject to team entries in each event, the aim is to create multiple divisions offering matches between like-for-like opposition. The tournaments are open to school, club and composite based teams. The hosting union also have the ability to add their own unique divisions to promote and be the catalyst of teenage girls participation growth locally.
