Experimental Domestic Safety Law Variations (EDSLV)

NZR regularly undertakes experimental law variation trials as a way to continue to explore ways to increase the safety, relevancy and attractiveness of the game.

EDSLVs are developed to undertake experimentations of law variations, to see if intended benefits are reproduced in actual games.

EDSLVs are typically for a set period of time and are subject to review and evaluation to determine their future relevancy.

World Rugby and its Member Unions, including New Zealand Rugby, periodically undertake experiment law variations to implement new constraints to achieve certain outcomes within actual competitions.
